Speak to your family and friends about your new healthy approach on life and try to get them involved. This is a great way to stay motivated and makes it much easier when preparing family meals or eating out with friends. If there is someone close to you not interested in being healthy, you don’t have to force it, but stay strong and eventually they may come to you after seeing how great you are doing. If you have already me your goals it may even be easier to convert other to your new healthy lifestyle.

Remember it is Really a Lifestyle Change Not a Diet

One big mistake that many people who have lost weight make is classifying their weight loss plan as only a diet. Tell your self early on that you are in this for the long haul and you REFUSE to go back to the way it was before. If you think of your progress as just a diet it will become temporary in your brain…you will feel like you have concord the fat beast, when in actuality the beast can only be kept at bay. In short, you just need to tell yourself and tell yourself often that being health and weight conscious is now a permanent part of your life.

Keep Unhealthy Foods Out of the House

Maybe I am just speaking for myself here, but if I have cake in the house then I am going to eat it. In fact, I am going to eat 90% of it. My willpower when it comes to food is not that strong at home. I have no problem at other peoples house or even going out to eat, but if it is in my house then it will end up in and then eventually on my belly. How in the world would I avoid this temptation? I don’t purchase unhealthy food when I grocery shop. I have never been the type to pick out bad foods when shopping, but my wife wasn’t always on board which made this hard. So, before this can really help you, you may have to revisit get your family involved like I suggested earlier. I still have a burger and fries sometimes, but I don’t have anything unhealthy in my house to temp me constantly. I cant eat an entire jar of peanut butter in the middle of the night if I don’t have any.

Find Fun Ways to get Exercise and Stay Active

You have heard this one before, but it need to be said again. Working out isn’t always fun, especially for anyone who hasn’t been doing it consistently for a while. After working out your brain actually release chemicals that give you a happy relaxed feeling, but to get to that point require boring physical torment, right? Wrong! There are tons of ways to have fun and get exercise at the same time. Personally I enjoy hiking, basketball, kayaking (sometimes because I am a beginner), running in nature, obstacle courses, climbing rock walls, paintball or air-soft, or playing with my dog. Find something you like to do, and if it isn’t something physical then find a way to make it physical. I play video games sometimes and I will do so many of a certain workout each time I lose or in between matches. There are also plenty of video games available that can keep you active such as the Dance Central series which is on Wii and Xbox 360. You have to say active so MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Make Goals

So you loss weight and you are happy with the way look and feel, does that mean you can’t have goals? Of course you can and should still set goals for yourself regularly. It could be as simple as setting a goal to increase your morning jog by a mile or you could go big and make finishing a marathon your next goal. If you have a large goal it is probably better to have many smaller goals leading up to the main goal, it is kind a mind trick. Each time you reach one of those intermediate goals, your self esteem and motivation get a big boost. Remember that goals should always be “S.M.A.R.T.

  • S – Specific (Narrow the goal down to the smallest detail. If you want to finish a marathon you could include how fast you want to finish).
  • M – Measurable (Is the goal meaningful manageable, or motivational)
  • A – Attainable (Is it possible to complete and aligned to your overall goals)
  • R – Relevant (Is the goal realistic and based on results. It is unrealistic to set a goal to run a marithon when you are unexperienced and only have a few days to train).
  • T – Time Oriented (Set a time in which the goal is meant to be achieved. If the goal is not achieved that is ok, just set a new time and work even harder).

Reward Yourself

It is very important that you recognize the hard work you have put into being healthier. So, you should give yourself recognition from time to time for maintaining your new healthy lifestyle. I personally life to buy myself a video game or go out to eat at my favorite restaurant. Find what works for you and make sure you reward yourself.

Reduce Stress

Stress can be a negative factor on our health and lead to fat gain, high blood pressure and a host of other issues. Alleviate stress any way you can. Get plenty of sleep, keep a healthy work/life balance, enjoy your hobbies, and keep your finances in order. What does finances have to do with stress? Well, many believe money is the leading cause of stress in the American household and has been named as the leading cause for divorce in the U.S. I know this part may contradict with keeping a balances work and home life, but it is something you will need to sort out if you ever want to get rid of that nasty stress.

Get Sleep

As I mentioned, getting plenty of sleep reduces stress. Getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep a day will also ensure you are more focused throughout the day. Sleep deprivation can lead to unhealthy food choices throughout the day and a decreased desire to be active. Set a bedtime and stick to it. I don’t care if the new Tosh.0 or American Idol is on, you need to get sleep more than you need to worry about the real or fake lives of other people.

Plan your Meals

If you have completed the Fat Loss Factor system then you most likely have gotten the hang of planning your meal. Most of us live busy lives and to fit in work, school, family, friends, and all of that other stuff we have to be prepared. One great way to same time is to cook and prepare multiple meals at one time. This way you know exactly what you are eating and when you will be eating it, and you wont have an excuse to grab fast food or vending machine trash when out of the house.

Teach Others What you Have Learned

When I was in my junior year in college I was having the hardest time in my Calculus class. No matter how many times I performed the steps for any type of problem I just could make it stick. I randomly came across an article online, on Yahoo I think, that discussed ways to learn. One of the methods was to teach. So I started going to my campus math lab (tutoring center) every time I was on campus. What ever I needed help with I would get one of the tutors to help me with and then I would teach it back to them. Then when another student need help with the same type of problem I would try and teach it to them. I did this over and over. My C- average in the class eventually climber up to a A- by the end of the class.

This technique can be applied to any aspect of life. If you want to stay on a healthy track, teach others how they can be healthy, You will not only develop a better memory, but you will be consistently motivated and held responsible by your students.

Join a Fitness Group

Getting your family involved is one way of getting support for your fitness lifestyle, but you can always search out others who already see health the way you do. You can join classes at a gym, health and fitness groups on Facebook and other social networks, or just attend local community fitness clubs that get together and do various physical activities. Find a great support group and you all much less likely to revert back to those bad habits.
