Does drinking water help you lose weight Or Can It Make You Gain Weight ? The answer is Both!
Everyone knows that drinking water is good for you. Adults are carrying around tens of pounds worth of water every day simply because our bodies need it.
Drinking a lot of water has more health benefits than you can think of. It increases your metabolism slightly so you burn more calories. It makes you feel full so you don’t eat too much. It helps your body flush out harmful toxins. Water is also used to improve digestion.
So if water is so good for you, why is it that it is also making millions of people overweight and infertile? That’s right- studies show that normal, everyday tap water (which has zero calories) is making life tougher for an awful lot of people. It boils down to basically 2 things:
Water retention and chemicals in our drinking water.
You may already know this, but water retention is when your body is storing excess water. In many cases, this can be more than 10 or 15 pounds! It really just depends on the person, but you’d be surprised how much water weight most people are carrying around.
The main thing that causes water retention is the combination of a poor diet and zero exercise. What happens when you eat a poor diet (such as with a lot of sugar or salt), your body will naturally retain water. The effects of this aren’t bad if you get regular exercise, but most people don’t.
The reason that exercise is so helpful is that it allows you to sweat out excess water. Your sweat also contains salt, which is why your sweat tastes salty. Thus when you work up a sweat, you are eliminating both excess salt and water. This causes you to lose weight and help your body be healthier.
Now let’s talk about how chemicals have effects on our bodies. Even though modern day filtering systems are great, they still don’t eliminate all of the chemicals in our drinking water. In fact, things like chlorine and fluoride- often found in tap water- are very harmful to your body!
Think that drinking bottled water is safer? Think again. Some Water bottles tend to leak Bisphenol A(BPA) into your water. This chemical causes your body to produce more estrogen, which affects how your body stores fat. Too much estrogen in either a man or woman causes them to accumulate fat more easily.
Want more bad news? BPA and other similar chemicals can cause infertility. The West’s fertility rates have dropped significantly over the years, and many people blame water!
To protect yourself from water retention and BPA, there are several things you can do:
- Eat a healthy diet without excessive salt or sugar
- Exercise on a regular basis to sweat out excess water and salt.
- Drink plenty of water. Instead of drinking water straight from the tap or a plastic water bottle, consider filtering it and then storing it in a stainless steel water bottle.
So Does drinking water help you lose weight? It definitely can. Drinking water combined with healthy diet and proper exercise is the key to losing weight and keeping it off. If you are looking for a weight loss program that follows this idea, you should take a look at our Fat Burning Furnace Review.
